How does one find a patent attorney who is registered before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)?

USPTO Patent Attorney and Agent Search

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) maintains a database of registered patent attorneys and agents (see USPTO Patent Attorney and Agent Search).  Through the aforementioned page, the reader is able to search for a patent practitioner using a variety of attributes such as: name, firm, city, state, registration number, etc.  In addition to the foregoing, the USPTO also provides a listing of patent attorneys and agents by geographic area.

Patent Attorney Location

Because patent law is a federal matter, an individual who is interested in filing a patent application may choose to work with a United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registered patent attorney who is located in any state.  Furthermore, in view of the current state of communication technologies (e.g., video networking, email, etc.) meeting in-person is not necessarily required.
