The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) maintains a database of registered patent attorneys and agents (see USPTO Patent Attorney and Agent Search). Through the aforementioned page, the reader is able to search for a patent practitioner using a variety of attributes such as: name, firm, city, state, registration number, etc. In addition to the foregoing, the USPTO also provides a listing of patent attorneys and agents by geographic area.

Because patent law is a federal matter, an individual who is interested in filing a patent application may choose to work with a United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registered patent attorney who is located in any state.
